<item><title>Corn Breeder- Seeds and Traits R&amp;D Job (Homer, IL, US)</title><description><![CDATA[Corn Breeder- Seeds and Traits R&D-1305170<br/><br/><b>Description</b><br/><br/>Dow AgroSciences, based in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, develops leading-edge crop protection and plant biotechnology solutions to meet the challenges of the growing world. Dow AgroSciences is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company and had annual global sales of $6.4 billion in 2012.<br/><br/>Under the general supervision of the Sidney Site Leader, the candidate will coordinate with the functional corn leader  to develop new inbreds and hybrids that contribute to the commercial success of the company. This role include responsibilities to lead a research project in the development of inbred lines to fit the maturity zones covering 106-115 DRM.  The candidate must support overall breeding strategy by selecting and managing test locations that are used by self and other DAS stations to identify superior performing products and to help position the products for sales.  The incumbent is expected to work in a team approach to apply state-of-the art Genomics Technologies as well as multi-disciplinary prediction methodologies to support breeding maize for yield and other complex traits.<br/><br/>The candidate will understand and assure compliance with all DAS, State and Federal regulations.<br/><br/><b>Primary Responsibilities:</b><br/><br/>- Provide leadership, coaching and feedback to station personnel and part-time employees<br/>- Select germplasm, develop and implement a creative and efficient breeding plan with the purpose of selecting superior commercial products in assigned maturity<br/>- The breeding plan must take into account both performance of the new hybrids and new parent lines to positively influence cost of goods<br/>- Understand and leverage the diversity of germplasm available from the Global breeding network as well as molecular tools in the development of the breeding plan<br/>- Ensure research programs are in full compliance with all DAS, State and Federal requirements governing regulated transgenic field testing activities<br/>- Partner with external units, team and other process owners to prioritize projects based on business goals and develop synergies between projects<br/>- Active communication with commercial team to provide technical knowledge for hybrid placement<br/>- Interface with the experts in quantitative genetics, Data Mining and Bioinformatics to integrate results to support breeding decisions<br/>- Effectively plan and allocate resources across operational lanes<br/>- Actively participate in global multi-disciplinary teams comprised of lab, field, parent seed, and management personnel to support station activities<br/>- Contribute leadership skills, ideas and support for North American breeding initiatives including those relating to Human Resources, Employee Health &Safety (EH&S), Trait Stewardship & Compliance and cross-functional teams<br/>- Travel to outlying locations and research stations and laboratories as needed<br/>- Ensure that DAS EH&S, DOT and station regulations and policies are established and enforced<br/><br/>This position is located in Sidney, Illinois, USA.<br/><br/><b>Qualifications</b><br/><br/>- PhD degree or equivalent experience in Plant Breeding<br/>- Commercial breeding experience is highly desirable<br/>- Solid understanding of genetics and/or molecular biology, agronomy, statistics, transgenic crop development, emerging technologies and customers&#8217; needs<br/>- Demonstrated personal leadership, interpersonal, analytical, planning and organizational skills.<br/>Ability to take initiative and work effectively on teams<br/>- Must have enthusiasm and aptitude for learning and continuous improvement of critical research activities<br/>- Strong computer and communication skills<br/><br/><b>Primary Location</b>: North America-USA-Illinois-Homer<br/><b>Schedule</b>: Full-time]]></description><pubDate>Mon, 10 Jun 2013 05:00:00 GMT</pubDate><link>http://careers.dowagro.com/job/Homer-Corn-Breeder-Seeds-and-Traits-R&amp;D-Job-IL-61849/2653665/?utm_source=J2WRSS&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=J2W%5FRSS</link><guid>http://careers.dowagro.com/job/Homer-Corn-Breeder-Seeds-and-Traits-R&amp;D-Job-IL-61849/2653665/?utm_source=J2WRSS&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=J2W%5FRSS</guid></item></channel></rss>
